MG Car Club

The MG Car Club’s centenary celebrations exemplified exceptional club coordination through its innovative MG 100 Cavalcade, which united twelve regional centres in a month-long relay from John O’Groats to Land’s End. The journey of ‘Cecil’, a tribute to founder Cecil Kimber, connected hundreds of enthusiasts whilst raising funds for Lupus UK and The Alzheimer’s Society, embodying the ‘Marque of Friendship’ ethos.
The culminating MG 100 Southeast event at Brooklands brought together 500 MGs, including 70 competition vehicles, creating a comprehensive timeline from earliest models to the new Cyberster. The presence of Kimber’s great-grandson Joe McGavin at the historic motorsport venue added particular poignancy to the celebrations.
This nationwide initiative demonstrated how car clubs can balance heritage appreciation with contemporary relevance, uniting regional centres, supporting charitable causes and engaging with current MG dealers to celebrate both past and future.
